Nontron - home of the supermarket

Nontron is lovely in the sunshine. Useful too if you want to buy food. Apart from the normal shops, Nontron sells knives. Look it up. There is a knife festival in August which might be interesting.

Also useful for Lidl, Super U, cash machines, and other dull things.

Le Puy Gite - and the sailors

From the gite at Le Puy, we went for a day trip to the Dordogne river region. We went to Sarlat and had a great pizza lunch in the old town. After some serious shopping, we went on to the banks of the Dordogne wher we found a coffee shop! You can hire canoes from here, and paddle down the river, but you can just sit and have another coffee :)

Le Puy and the Crusaders

The knights are not in Domme anymore. At the end of a long day we went for a wee look round Domme. The gate towers in the picture below were where the knights were held. They must have been bad. I was going to try to leave some family members....

Le Puy pool

We were spoilt by the pool that Paul has built.

Perfectly private, beautifully finished with a fixed depth (1.5M)

Sunloungers with umbrellas, and a lovely hot stone seat.

While we were there, the unheated pool varied from 22 to 24 degrees.

I swam every day, and the stragglers joined me most days.

There is a fridge in the pool house which keep beer cold!

The market at Brantome

We took a trip down to Brantome, to see the market, and have a mooch around the town.
There is a large carpark near the riverside which we missed first time, but got on the second approach.

The market fills the space near the river, and crosses the bridge. The girls were totally impressed with the piles of bread, but the chocolate squidgy thing was perfect.

I love the live lobsters!
Still to find out what lupins are.

You can go canoeing on the river, but we didn't. We are of the less-brave variety and found a quiet lac for this.

Hot weather at Le Puy, Nontron

Oh look. You can see my yellow phone in the picture. I think this was the 14th Juillet 2011. But to be honest, we had 2 weeks in Le Puy, near Nontron, and the weather was hot for us pale scots. Factor 30 was the norm for us, and factor 50 was heavily used by one of us. She is Ginger.

The area we stayed in had not had rain for some weeks, so the few showers we had were welcomed by farmers and gardeners in the area.

Most days, the temperature was around 25 - 30 degrees centigrade.

The pool was another matter.....

Chickens

One of these is now, sadly, an ex-chicken.
